The highly anticipated Breakout update for Apex Legends is set to launch on February 12, 2024. It will bring numerous new features and changes to the popular battle royale game. Among the most exciting additions is Thunderdome, a brand-new map designed for fast-paced, action-packed battles.
According to a blog post from Apex Legends, the new map is inspired by the original arena in Kings Canyon. Thunderdome features three distinct lanes and offers multiple power positions for strategic domination. Whether you prefer close-quarters combat in Team Deathmatch, objective-based skirmishes in Control, or the chaotic rush of Gun Run, Thunderdome promises to be a thrilling addition to the Mixtape playlist.
Beyond the new map, Breakout delivers a major revamp to Ranked mode. The level requirement has been lowered back to 20, and splits are making a comeback, meaning the season will reset twice. Scoring is becoming more transparent, with a heavier emphasis on eliminations over placements. Additionally, entry costs are returning, requiring 20 RP per tier starting from Silver. For those seeking a more competitive experience, these changes aim to create a more rewarding and skill-based Ranked environment.
Breakout also introduces Legend Upgrades, an in-match progression system that allows players to customize their Legends with unique enhancements for armor and abilities. By earning EVO points through various actions like dealing damage and completing objectives, players can unlock different upgrade paths, adding a layer of strategic depth and adaptability to each match.
Other notable additions include Performance Mode, which enables 120Hz output on compatible displays for smoother gameplay, and “Breakout Rewards,” offering cosmetic unlocks tied to specific Legend challenges. The update also marks the retirement of Clubs, which have been replaced by a new personalization feature called Tags.
Thunderdome, Ranked adjustments, Legend Upgrades, and more make the Breakout update feel like a game-changer. However, we’ll have to wait and see if it brings the numbers that can rival games like Call of Duty.
