After much deliberation, Studio Wildcard has decided to postpone the release of Ark 2, the highly anticipated sequel, until the end of 2024. The game will still launch exclusively on Xbox, Game Pass, and Windows distribution platforms (Steam/PC). The decision to delay the game’s release is driven by the desire to provide players with the best possible experience while ensuring the well-being of the development team.

The primary reason for the delay is the need for more time to explore and utilize the full potential of the new Unreal Engine 5 technology. This cutting-edge technology offers the opportunity to create a game with an unprecedented scope at Studio Wildcard. To achieve this, the team has had to adapt their workflows and pipelines for the next-generation gaming paradigm.

While the delay is disappointing for fans, Studio Wildcard is committed to keeping them engaged and informed during the development process. They will not be showcasing any gameplay, screenshots, or videos of Ark 2 this year but plan to reveal more assets in the coming months, culminating in a gameplay reveal next year.

In the meantime, Studio Wildcard will be developing an intermediary Unreal Engine 5 Ark product to test and refine the new technology, including rendering, lighting, performance optimization, and interactive water and foliage. This separate product will feature cross-platform modding, multiplayer, and a new account system to inform the development of Ark 2.

Ark 2 will introduce significant design changes from the original game, including Souls-like combat, primitive-only weaponry, strict third-person mechanics, and a more serious tone. As a result, the team plans to offer a fully next-gen version of the original experience to ensure that fans can continue to enjoy Ark for years to come.

Studio Wildcard is excited to embark on this new Ark journey with the gaming community, bringing players from PC, Xbox, and PlayStation together in a next-generation version of the beloved game, complete with revolutionary cross-platform modding.
