Luna Abyss, an upcoming first-person shooter filled with horror themes, has just released an official announcement trailer with eerie narration and shadowy gameplay. No release date has been confirmed, although the new trailer concludes by stating the game is “coming soon”.
You can watch the full trailer on IGN’s official YouTube channel, where it first premiered:
The trailer and description both explain that the player has been imprisoned in a strange and terrifying structure, buried under the surface of an alien moon. Through bullet-hell combat, you’ll need to survive, and probably find a way to escape.
Similar to Portal, the trailer makes it clear that a creepy AI called “Ayla” will be monitoring your movements all the while. They demand that the player takes control of their “wardens” by exploring the dangerous abyss of the prison. Ayla appears to enjoy relishing in the player’s predicament at first, narrating the entire trailer and offering some exposition.
Either way, the trailer description also notes that the developers Bonsai Collective promise to deliver a story-driven game. Mixing bullet-hell mechanics with a narrative and first-person approach should be pretty satisfying.
Bonsai Collective was only just founded in 2019, so Luna Abyss is their first big title. The small, remotely operated team is based across the UK, and they have stated an interest in “world-building, story-telling, and classic video games” on their official site.
Luna Abyss‘ first trailer shows off a lot of red lighting, dark crevices and a good variety of enemies. The influences are clear, and fans were quick to notice similarities with Doom and Nier. But judging by the first trailer, there should be more than enough personality to invite newcomers.
After this promising start, it’ll be very interesting to learn more about the mechanics and style. You can read more about Luna Abyss’ next updates, and other upcoming indies, by checking out our news section!
