Candle Knight, an upcoming 2.5D puzzle platformer with a medieval and surreal theme, has just been delayed until Spring 2023, just ahead of its original planned launch for this month.

Developer and publisher Dracma Studios, based in Mexico, has cited the need to polish the game and eliminate bugs. A new release date hasn’t been confirmed, but the devs do promise a more rewarding experience. Here’s the full statement from their official Twitter feed:

The 2.5D genre has resulted in some of the most memorable and satisfying platformers, such as Inside, Little Nightmares or Unravel. Candle Knight definitely has promise. The level design may be intentionally grim, but it has fine details. These are smartly played up as the game cleverly plays with various points of view, using the background and foreground.

Also, the creature design is pretty stunning, and probably outshines some of the traditional puzzle platforming. You can check out some gameplay yourself by reviewing the original reveal trailer. It was released nearly a year ago, on Dracma Studios’ official YouTube channel:

Candle Knight’s delay is cutting it pretty close, suggesting that some of its lingering faults are probably fairly small. Although curious fans are probably disappointed again, they prefer a smooth launch and generally praise open communication.

Today’s announcement makes it clear the devs won’t reveal a new launch date until they’re absolutely certain next time. Spring really isn’t too far off, so fans should keep an eye out for a concrete date to be revealed pretty soon.

It would be great representation for a Mexican game studio to succeed, so hopefully they get all of the patience and support they deserve. Candle Knight has a strong hook and potent setting, with more than enough personality to wait for.
