Kabaret is an upcoming single-player dark fantasy narrative video game by Malaysian indie game studio, Persona Theory Games. This game will allow players to discover the story behind the monsters of classic Southeast Asian myths and folklore.
Kabaret launched its demo version in 2021 and has received favorable reviews since then, thanks to its visual novel look and fascinating narrative gameplay. Recently, Kabaret released a new announcement trailer, highlighting its key features.
In Kabaret, players will take on the role of Jebat, a boy who was cursed into a monster. Jebat journeys into a mystical, violent, and unforgiving realm called the “Alam Bunian” where he was taken in by the charismatic owner of Kabaret, simply known as The Caretaker. Jebat is tasked with conducting tea ceremonies with the dwellers in an effort to find out how to break his curse. Each of the mythological creatures who visit the Kabaret is based on Southeast Asian legends and folklore.

Kabaret boasts a beautiful hand-drawn stylized art, matched with a traditional musical soundtrack. It is a visual novel featuring dark fantasy folklore, traditional Southeast Asian games, tea brewing, musical gameplay, and multiple endings.
