Odinfall, an upcoming roguelite and twin-stick shooter from developer Ember Paw Games and publisher Fireshine Games, has just been announced with a new gameplay trailer. Although a release window hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to launch this year.
Odinfall will be available on Steam, where users can wishlist the game today. Players can also sign up for a closed alpha. Here’s the full announcement trailer from the Fireshine Games YouTube channel:
Odinfall should look very familiar to fans of the genre, as it stacks as many weapons as possible together, and aims for as much chaos on screen in any given frame. But it’s the characters and the environments that will probably win you over.
Today’s trailer smartly markets Odinfall’s playable Viking Moose, and it’d be nice if there were a little more of that playful fantasy to choose from. It’s a terrific design and better reinforces the unapologetic attitude Odinfall seems to be going for.
The stages procedurally generated, which naturally adds a lot more replayability. This is much appreciated in simple twin-stick shooters, where blunt action can sometimes become repetitive over time.
Also, the environments happen to be unusually destructible. Blasting and barreling through the environments to pave your own path will surely improve the pacing of the game. It should also give you a very broad grin, since today’s trailer makes it look like tremendous fun.
There’s a true sense of freedom and unstoppable force behind visuals like that, which really sell the tone of the game. The premise is that players are trying to prevent a second Ragnarok. It may have been more fun to survive the first Ragnarok as the world was falling apart, but doubling down on an event like that is in the spirit of Odinfall’s proudly indulgent approach.
