Gori: Cuddly Carnage, an upcoming “skate-and-slash” with a dark sense of humor, developed by Angry Demon Studio and published by Wired Productions, has released a new gameplay overview trailer. It explains the basic premise, combat mechanics, upgrades and boss battles.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage doesn’t have a release date yet. It will be available on PC, the Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch today’s new “talkthrough” trailer on the Wired Productions YouTube channel:

Gori: Cuddly Carnage has already revealed quite a bit, including a gameplay trailer all the way back in June 2022. However, these mainly showed off the truly bizarre and chaotic tone of the game. Today’s new footage gives a much better view of its specific mechanics, along with glimpses of new enemies.

The game draws a lot of dark humor through contrast, taking imagery that is traditionally cute and literally throwing it in a blender with comic book pulp. This is hardly the next Stray for cat fanatics, but despite limiting its potential audience, this indie fully commits to its lane.

Fans of dark humor are certain to enjoy the frantic pacing and bloody mayhem. Its art design will surely help, as the colorful neon world has some relentless verve that harkens back to splashy 80’s action, and even horror.

The mechanics look relatively simple, with very few and linear upgrades revealed in today’s trailer. However, there are a variety of creative enemies, including a boss fight in today’s teaser that reinforces how much of a childhood fever dream Gori: Cuddly Carnage aims to be.

The graphics are also surprisingly polished for an indie. Overall, Gori: Cuddly Carnage might come off repulsive to some, due to its niche theme. But that same premise may also give it real potential to become a cult classic.
