How to Become a Soul Reaper (Shinigami) in Hollow Era
After the intro cutscene in Hollow Era, you’ll find yourself dead and turned into a Soul Spirit. The first thing you need to do is find an NPC nearby who will give you the option to become a Shinigami.
- When you first spawn as a Soul, hold J to reveal all available quests in Karakura.
- There will only be one quest—accept it to become a Shinigami.
- Be quick because every two minutes, a piece of your chain breaks.
- If the chain fully breaks, you won’t become a Shinigami—you’ll turn into a Hollow instead.

Once you complete this step, you’ll officially start your journey as a Shinigami.
How to Get a Shikai in Hollow Era
To unlock Shikai, you’ll need to reach Level 15 and take a quest from Urihiro.
- Urihiro will send you to fight Urahara.
- Urahara is Level 15+, so make sure you’re ready for the fight.
- You can find Kisuke Urahara behind Kisuke’s Shop in Karakura Town.
- After defeating him, you’ll unlock Shikai and gain the ability to activate it in combat.

How to Activate Your Shikai in Hollow Era
- Shikai is activated with the Rage Bar.
- Every time you deal or take damage, your rage bar fills up slightly.
- Once the bar is full and pulsating, press Y to activate Shikai.
- If you run out of reiatsu, your Shikai will automatically deactivate.
- You can also deactivate it manually by holding Y.
Changing Your Shikai Power in Hollow Era
When you first unlock Shikai, your sword will receive a random ability.
- If you don’t like your ability, you can reroll it for money.
- Go to Urahara’s Shop in Karakura Town to reroll your Shikai power.
Mastering Your Shikai in Hollow Era
Your Shikai can become stronger through Mastery Points. Every time you use a Shikai skill, you’ll gain 1 Mastery Point.
- Higher Mastery Levels reduce rage drain while Shikai is active.
- Each level also changes your aura effect.
Shikai Mastery Levels and Auras
- Mastery Level 1 (1+ Points): Transparent aura.
- Mastery Level 2 (150+ Points): Brighter aura with more particles.
- Mastery Level 3 (300+ Points): Adds lightning effects.
- Mastery Level 4 (500+ Points): Adds floating rocks around your character.
Can You Get a Bankai in Hollow Era?
Right now, Bankai is not available in Hollow Era. There’s a good chance it’ll be added in a future update, but there’s no confirmed release date yet.
So what’s next after Shikai? If you want even more power, you can become a Visored.
How to Become a Visored in Hollow Era
To become a Visored, you’ll need a Hogyoku, which allows a Shinigami to break the barrier between Shinigami and Hollow.
- Use the Hogyoku to begin your transformation.
- Once used, find the Visored NPC at the Visored Warehouse (requires Level 50+).

Visored Nodes in Hollow Era
Once you become a Visored, you’ll get access to special nodes that boost your Hollow powers.
- Mask Control: Reduces the chance of losing control to your inner Hollow.
- Visored: Increases how long you can wear your Hollow Mask and boosts Hollow damage.
Visored Abilities in Hollow Era
Becoming a Visored gives you unique abilities that mix Shinigami and Hollow powers.
- Hollow Mask: Allows you to summon and wear your Hollow Mask on command.
- Cero: Fires a powerful beam of reiatsu that deals heavy damage.
- Final Cero: Pins an enemy to the ground and blasts them with a stronger Cero attack.
- Vasto Rage: Temporarily transforms you into a Vasto Lorde, the strongest Hollow form.
By following this progression path, you can unlock your Shikai, master your abilities, and become a Visored in Hollow Era.
