Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP) are now available for the Nintendo Switch, and with their release comes a variety of interesting challenges and questions for players. While the games are fairly straight-forward, some of the new mechanics and fun aspects of them can be a bit tricky! If you’re wondering how you can get your favorite Pokemon to walk with you as you play one of the games, we will show you how in this guide.
Walking With Pokemon in BDSP
To get a Pokemon to follow you in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you will need to reach Hearthome City. You will reach this area after you obtain the Forest Badge, which is obtained in Eterna City. After making your way through the Wayward Cave and through Route 208, you should arrive in Hearthome City.
Once you’ve arrived at Hearthome City, you will want to locate the Pokemon Mart. Head to the left and go up past the large church looking building and to the left of the Pokemon Center. Just a bit past the center, you will come to the Amity Square West Gate. Go inside of this tunnel and through the doors. Talk to the person located in this area, who will allow you to take your Pokemon for a walk within Amity Square. When you’re done walking around, attempt to leave the way you came in.
Once you go to leave, you will put away your Pokemon and the receptionist will ask if you are refreshed. Go through this dialogue and keep walking towards the exit and there will be an exclamation mark over their head and the following dialogue:
Oh, it looks like the Pokemon that was taking a stroll with you wants to go out!
Only special Trainers can make their Pokemon feel that way!
I’m pretty sure that your Pokemon would be delighted if you let them out of their Poke Balls outside of the square, too!
After you cycle through this dialogue, you will be able to leave the area. Go through the tunnel and outside, and you should now have the Pokemon you were walking with out of its Poke Ball!
To select a different Pokemon to walk with you, just open up your menus and select Pokemon. Pick the Pokemon you want to follow you, and then select the “Walk together” option. You should now have your Pokemon walking with you as you go through your various adventures!
