Marauders, the sci-fi looter shooter from developer Small Impact Games and publisher Team17, will officially release a new United Allies update next week on April 25th, 2023. The update will feature proximity voice, new cosmetics, equipment, and many more ships.
Marauders first entered Early Access in October 2022, and is currently only available on PC via Steam. There’s still no word on a release window or plans for console ports. You can watch today’s new trailer for the United Allies update on the Team17 YouTube channel:
Marauders has received a lot of praise despite comparisons to Escape from Tarkov, another grounded looter shooter from a few years ago. The developers added a neat sci-fi twist, and the combat is widely considered satisfying.
Applying gritty and rugged visuals to futuristic space battles is a reliable formula, creating better urgency and impact in every raid. The gameplay loop also feels more flexible, since players can upgrade and pilot their ships. This creates more immersion and really sells the pirate theme.
Unfortunately, there just hasn’t been very much content, and updates like this are going to play a large role in the game’s success leading up to a full launch. Goings have been very slow, so it has been difficult for the devs to consistently renew interest as casual gamers lose investment over time.
Today’s trailer is mostly cinematic and doesn’t actually reveal much about the new update. However, it’s clear that the next update is going to bring a lot of fresh content. There will be many new ships, including different turrets, so that piloting doesn’t become so redundant.
Proximity Voice is probably the highlight of the update, reinforcing the game’s realism and encouraging tactical gameplay. Since the update is so ambitious for Marauders, there will surely be some technical issues to work out, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
