My Time at Sandrock, the open world building and adventure game from Pathea Games, has revealed that an open playtest for multiplayer will begin on January 12th, 2023, at 7 PM pacific time. It will run through January 19th, 2023. The teaser image in today’s announcement accounts for CET. Multiplayer will support up to four players total.
My Time at Sandrock is only available on PC at this time, but once it leaves Early Access, the full version is expected to launch on all major platforms. Here’s the full tweet from the game’s official feed:
My Time at Sandrock is an interesting little follow-up to My Time at Portia, Pathea Games’ previous farming and life sim driven by construction mechanics.
The newest game is far more distinguishable from the Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing influences that fueled Portia. My Time at Sandrock embraces a futuristic Wild West setting, though both of Pathea Games’ titles are post-apocalyptic. It’s hardly Mad Max, but the desert environment does feel more fitting and thematic.
My Time at Sandrock is an expansive ride, combining the small-town charm expected from the genre with plenty of worthwhile challenges and exploration. The characters are surprisingly well-written, with layered backstories and fun personalities. Overall, this game feels just a little more lived-in than its predecessor.
According to the blog post on My Time at Sandrock’s Steam page, the multiplayer update will include various historical events from Sandrock’s past, with only a few characters from the single-player story showing up. It’ll also feature “new monsters, add the planting and mounting system, and town management system”.
So, the multiplayer playtest offers an original storyline, unique quests, and other changes that provide solid incentives for fans to revisit the game together.
