Deceive Inc., an upcoming indie spy game from developer Sweet Bandits Studios and publisher Tripwire Presents will officially roll out an Open Beta on March 10th, 2023. The game features social stealth multiplayer mechanics, and it will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For a review of how the gameplay works, here is PlayStation’s new Open Beta trailer:
Deceive Inc. has been updating fans pretty regularly since the gameplay reveal trailer came out in June last year, so most of the concepts and characters teased in today’s Open Beta trailer weren’t big news.
However, the March release date does give fans a clearer picture of the state of the game, and how far off the next stage of development should be. The second Alpha test was launched last December, for reference.
The Open Beta trailer today features terrific music, and the editing is spot on. It successfully emulates the old school 60’s spy shows that distinctly inspired the game, such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart, or Mission: Impossible.
Deceive Inc. promises to be the perfect blend of social deduction, friendly Hitman-style deception, and controlled chaos. With over-the-top gadgets and characters, Deceive Inc. might just toe the line between casual and competitive gameplay.
Although it does seem like a novelty act, there’s a lot more replay value here than most social multiplayer games, a genre that’s struggling to catch lightning in a bottle again after Among Us.
It’s a shame that Deceive Inc. won’t be releasing on last-gen consoles, since the graphics hardly demand the haptic feedback and other high-end technology from PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Hopefully it will at least join their respective subscription services sometime after launch.
