The Voidness, an upcoming psychological horror indie from developer and publisher Steelkrill Studio, has released a trailer for its new release date. Originally expected to launch today, March 17th, the game was delayed earlier this week until April 7th, 2023. It will be available on Steam. Here’s the new trailer from Steelkrill Studio’s official YouTube channel:

The Voidness was only first revealed about a month ago, and it has already picked up a lot of buzz. So, today’s trailer should help soften any disappointment over the unexpectedly prompt delay. Revealing even more gameplay should help keep interest afloat until the new release date, which is also relatively close anyways.

The devs were fairly vague about the cause for delay. They cited “some issues” and the need to “polish the game” in the announcement earlier this week:

Somebody has been watching their ghost hunting shows, because The Voidness’ SLS camera mechanic is going to be innately unnerving. It’ll be very unsettling to rely on a device that can pick up full structures that your eye can’t see. This would also create a disconnect from reality, supporting the psychological tension that The Voidness is aiming for.

So, the central premise of The Voidness could lead to some very clever horror. Today’s trailer hints at some creative sequences, and it’d be nice to really see the devs make the most of this idea.

According to the game’s official Steam page, players will also have the option to enable a microphone connection, so that enemies could hear you breathe when you’re hiding.

There are some very ambitious mechanics in this game, which should spark intrigue and justify the delay. It’s clear that the devs wanted to emphasize immersion, and any technical hiccups would compromise the whole experience.
