Voodolls, an upcoming cooperative, action, and tower defense title from developer SideRift and publisher Tate Multimedia has revealed that an open beta arrives this week on March 23rd, 2023. It’s set for 3 PM PDT (10 PM GMT). The open beta will also include exclusive cosmetics that players can keep if they purchase the fully launched game.
Voodolls is slated to launch on April 13th, 2023. It will be available on PC, and fans can wishlist the game on Steam now. Here’s the beta announcement from Voodolls’ official Twitter feed:
Voodolls has one of the most colorful and charming worlds in any tower defense game, with a surprising variety of environments and mechanics. It will definitely be one of the more accessible games in the genre, and among the most distinguishable. Both of these elements are going to be crucial for its success in such a crowded genre for the indie scene.
The hero and enemy designs are both cute and imaginative, with costumes and powers that are larger than life. Similarly, the settings really pop without adding too much detail, keeping things simple and swift.
Voodolls sort of harkens back to old school platformers overall resembling their action-packed gameplay and splashy visuals. These sensibilities appear to agree with the classic tower defense loop, and will surely make the exploration mechanics worthwhile.
Exploring is a less common side of tower defense, and much appreciated, especially when the environments are filled with so much life. Alongside the ability to swap camera angles, and cooperative gameplay, it really feels like Voodolls has more freedom and flexibility than the genre generally allows.
The closed beta was held just a couple of months ago, so it’ll be very helpful to see the broader fan response.
