Wild Hearts, a Monster Hunter style RPG inspired by feudal Japan designs, has announced that 7 straight minutes of gameplay will be revealed this week on October 5th, 2022. The gameplay premieres at 7 AM pacific time, on Wild Hearts’ official YouTube channel.
Thus far, the only distinguishable thing between Monster Hunter and Wild Hearts is the flavor of art design. That being said, the art design looks both impressive and inspired, and the graphics seem promising.
That’s a big relief from developer Omega Force, who aren’t necessarily known for their visuals. The Dynasty Warriors series is terrific hack-and-slash fun, but it always suffered from feeling a little behind the times.
It’ll be very interesting to see how Omega Force’s partnership with EA will turn out, as the new reveal trailer from a few days ago didn’t show more than simple hunting mechanics.
Now that 7 full minutes of gameplay will release soon, fans are curious about the specifics. This includes the abilities of the creatures, the weapons, and reviewing real-time combat. That will reveal a host of map traversal mechanics and more.
For example, Monster Hunter’s AI has established a high bar. Many of those creatures feel like genuine animals, and although their behavior has patterns, there is still a natural feeling about them. Even if certain actions trigger automatic responses from the animals.
If Wild Hearts hopes to compete with the Monster Hunter formula exclusively via re-skin, then the creatures should be brimming with personality. They should have creative defenses, and hopefully, interact with their environment just the same. The promo teases a “Kingtusk”, which looks straightforward enough.
It would also be nice if Wild Hearts reveals any game mechanics outside the hunting system, such as customization, upgrades, hubs and so forth.
