Wild Hearts, the upcoming monster hunting game from Omega Force and Koei Tecmo, has announced a new trailer that will focus on its unique Karakuri mechanic. The trailer will be available on Wild Hearts’ official YouTube channel on November 17th, 2022, at 7 AM pacific time:
The announcement includes a small GIF of the intriguing helicopter device, as Karakuri refers to all of the mechanical tools in Wild Hearts. It’s one of the most distinguishable elements of Wild Hearts that helps set it apart from the clear influence of Monster Hunter.
Karakuri appears to provide a broad variety of tools, from monster traps to map traversal, so the possibilities are basically limitless. The upcoming trailer teases that fans will get to see actual gameplay of the devices at work.
The Karakuri mechanic is so clearly central throughout the game, that revealing more of these tools should inherently reveal other fundamentals that fans could expect from the game.
It remains uncertain how much more Wild Hearts will offer other than straightforward monster hunting. As an RPG, it has the potential to add exploration, crafting, base building and so forth, all of which would benefit from the ancient Karakuri technology.
Surprisingly, the new thumbnail for the upcoming trailer shows off a Karakuri vehicle. That is definitely new to the monster hunting formula, and could drastically change players’ approach to the hunt. While it seems unlikely that you can use your weapons while operating the vehicle, it’d probably be difficult for a monster to outrun you.
This could present balancing issues, since Monster Hunter has established a solid pace for players to heal, and running down a monster is part of what makes the hunt feel so immersive. Vehicles are also more finnicky, so hopefully it’ll run smoothly in wild environments.
