Atlas Fallen, the upcoming action fantasy adventure from developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Entertainment, has finally revealed key details about the central game mechanics and story. The latest episode of Deck13 Inside included a wide variety of gameplay footage too.

Atlas Fallen is slated to launch on May 16th, 2023. It’ll be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s the full Deck13 showcase from their official YouTube channel:

Atlas Fallen only just released its first gameplay footage earlier this week, so it’s a welcome surprise to see such an in-depth video just days later. The sheer volume of reveals in today’s video are going to make it decisive in building fan interest, or not.

There’s a much clearer emphasis on movement now. Agility is not confined to hills or special environments. Instead, it can be freely wielded during combat and throughout the world. The sliding mechanic from the recent gameplay reveal looks like a real highlight compared to simple air dashes.

The world also feels more expansive and interconnected. There are creative ways in which the environment fuels the enemy design and resources, which promises to deliver a more tactile experience. That’s pretty impressive for something set in a desert, which should please fellow Dune fans.

The recurring theme of today’s video was about giving the player more freedom. Between the movement, massive world, and deep layers of crafting or customization, the devs seem to have managed that.

However, the narrative is really going to need to come together. A lot of the lore was explained today, including a dense origin story and rebellion premise. The latter sounds a little too familiar, but if the characterization can transcend some of those tropes, it’ll be great to see relationships evolve in this kind of rugged environment.
