Atlas Fallen, an upcoming fantasy and action RPG from developer Deck13 and publisher Focus Entertainment, has finally revealed some actual gameplay. The new trailer shows off some combat, map traversal, and more cinematic moments.

Atlas Fallen recently announced that it’s slated to launch on May 16th, 2023. It’ll be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch the full gameplay reveal trailer on Focus Entertainment’s YouTube channel here:

Atlas Fallen has kept fans curious since it was first revealed at Gamescom 2022. Unfortunately, today’s trailer didn’t reveal too much more. The narration is fine, but pretty straightforward, and it doesn’t elaborate any further on the mythology.

Also, the majority of the gameplay involves still environments, with some characters and creatures roaming around. The settings certainly look nice, nonetheless. They seem expansive, detailed, and do some creative things with the lore and desert world.

The devs may have been making a point of emphasizing environments. One of the more compelling shots in today’s trailer depicts a hero sliding downhill in the sand, which is a simple but neat map traversal mechanic. It’d be nice if interacting with your surroundings will play a larger role in-game than expected.

The combat does reveal some of the powers that players will have access to. The fantasy genre gives absolute freedom, so it may be a little disappointing to see giant hammers come out of thin air. Giant weapons will always bring Monster Hunter to mind. But it looks like there are some interesting spells too, creating ways to hover and fire projectiles.

At this point, Atlas Fallen looks like satisfying but traditional fare, and will probably need to reveal a lot more than this to explain how it distinguishes itself from comparable titles. The creature design looks good, the visuals are tidy, and the combat still has potential.
