Eresys, an upcoming cooperative horror game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft from developer Ares Dragonis and publisher Dragonis Games, will officially launch on April 20th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, where users can wishlist the game now. Here’s the full release trailer from the Dragonis Games YouTube channel, featuring all-new glimpses of gameplay:
Eresys is a fascinating little horror game that wears its budget on its sleeve, and completely benefits from it. There is a lot of striking imagery in today’s trailer, which takes very traditional Lovecraftian tropes and rephrases them in creative new ways.
Today’s trailer features visuals that are disrupted and rough around the edges in just the right way. This atmosphere promises to create something askew and unsettling. To that end, the rhythmic music and background of chanting is certainly on point.
There is a purity to Eresys that shows a comprehension of Lovecraft’s psychological dread and mystery. These are key elements that should really help this game succeed in the long run. The premise about cultists, the surreal objects and creature design, and the sense of escalation or impending doom are bound tightly in each new trailer.
Eresys was first expected to arrive on PC back in August 2022, per the alpha footage teaser trailer. So, it’s been a long wait for the devs’ curious fanbase. The most recent trailer was an official gameplay teaser, which showed less and a little too much all at once, revealing some key enemies. You can still review the teaser yourself on YouTube:
Eresys boasts a variety of interesting mechanics, but one of the major selling points is the AI’s ability to adapt and change. That’s going to lend a lot of replay value, which is crucial in coop survival games. This is a surprisingly ambitious project that could make horror survival a little more accessible.
