Touch Type Tale, a real-time strategy and typing adventure from developer Pumpernickel Studio and publisher Epic Games, released a new trailer featuring key mechanics and plot. Touch Type Tale is slated to launch on March 28th, 2023, and will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store. You can watch the full story trailer on the official Epic Games YouTube channel here:

Touch Type Tale has a friendly sense of humor about it, thanks to the contrast between the peril of the fantasy world and the manner with which players must save it.

Despite all of their visual and thematic similarities, Touch Type Tale never reaches the sporadic charm of Inkulinati, which recently released its first major update. But this could still be another medieval-inspired adventure worth exploring.

The devs seem to have made the most of the typing premise, and the asynchronous language options are an especially nice touch. In that way, the game is endlessly replayable, because it demands that players learn entirely new languages.

There are just enough unique mechanics to raise Touch Type Tale above something a little too academic and stale. Typing games can often feel like simple skill exercises, and many of them were actually designed that way.

But Touch Type Tale includes competitive play through online multiplayer, and it also has a full single-player campaign. It’d be neat to see environments and level designs that escalate and toy around with wordplay, as well as dedicated multiplayer settings that push competition.

Sadly, for a story trailer, today’s new footage was relatively light on the actual characters and their world. It remained frustratingly vague about these features, so let’s hope that these generic broad strokes about a peaceful land overrun by evil was some kind of self-aware joke.
