As the year draws to a close, so too do the online services for a number of Xbox games. In total, 13 games will soon lose online functionality, either in full or just partially. Many of these will mean that achievements will be out of the question.
Here’s a rundown of the games affected and when their servers are shutting down:
November 29

December 5
- Rocket League (player-to-player trading only)
December 8
- Battlefield 1943
- Battlefield: Bad Company
- Battlefield: Bad Company 2
- Mirror’s Edge
- Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
- Crysis 3
- Dante’s Inferno
- Dead Space 2
December 31
- Anvil: Vault Breaker
- NBA 2K22
- NBA 2K22 (Xbox One)
The closure of these servers (Thanks TrueAchievements) will mean that players will no longer be able to play these games online, and in some cases, they may also lose access to certain achievements. If you’re a fan of any of the games on this list, be sure to get your final online fix before their servers close for good.
In addition to the Xbox server closures listed above, Ubisoft recently announced that it is shutting down online services in games:
- Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction
The servers for these games will close on January 25, 2024, and finally, the servers for Warface: Breakout are set to close in April.
There are a lot of game servers closing very soon, but this just means that you won’t be able to use their online services. Many of these games are pretty old anyway and without multiplayer so it won’t affect many. Those that do have multiplayer will likely be revived on PC.
PC players tend to set up private servers for older games, but those tend to get hacked and are unsafe. So be careful whenever playing private multiplayer games for any game that has had its server taken down.
