Anima Flux, an upcoming metroidvania with couch co-op from developer and publisher Anima Flux, has just revealed an all-new trailer featuring gameplay and brief cinematics.
Anima Flux has not confirmed a release window yet, but it’s still “coming soon”. While supported platforms haven’t been announced either, it should be available on PC, as you can wishlist the game on Steam now. You can watch today’s full trailer on developer Anima Flux’s YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer does a great job of showcasing just how much players will have the opportunity to work together. The emphasis on cooperation and coordination is quite rare for the genre.
According to the game’s official Steam page, the devs were also careful to ensure that each protagonist will progress uniquely. And there is still a convenient single player mode for those who prefer a traditional experience, or if Player 2 just won’t be able to make it that day.
It was smart of the devs to put their hand-drawn animation front and center, and then close with it. It’s obvious that the animation is simply stunning, with a great eye for motion. The animation musters a lot of characterization in even the smallest moments. The game will offer cutscenes featuring this artwork, as if players were traversing through a 2D representation of an anime world.
The mythology seems relatively familiar, but it’s executed with considerable style. The art design is filled with inventive creatures and stages, so it does seem like Anima Flux won’t get caught up with nostalgia or homage.
Anima Flux, who share the name of their game, don’t have a vast library of games to consider for reference. But they hardly need it, as today’s trailer for Anima Flux promises a simple elaboration on the genre that is absolutely effective.
