Fans have already compared the visuals and movement in Disney Illusion Island to Rayman, but that’s hardly a bad thing. Besides, today’s trailer is packed with cinematics, which only reinforce just how much Disney Illusion Island celebrates the particular field of animation.

The game’s Nintendo product page mentions it will include hand-drawn animation and an orchestrated original score, both of which are immediately noticeable and impressive. The world of Disney Illusion Island is brimming with colors and textures that pop. The environments, obstacles and enemies seem to blend a variety of vintage and modern imagery, while remaining consistent.

It’s all very family friendly, and as a result, the actual platforming doesn’t look too complex or swift. But that’s just fine, and future trailers might elaborate. Some light puzzles and unique abilities are also teased in the product page, so there’s plenty more to reveal.

Given the theme and the option of 4-player couch coop, Disney Illusion Island is clearly encouraging families to play together. Ultimately, it looks like a throwback to classic Disney games, which have been sorely missed.

The voice performances are also spot on, properly tying into classic cartoons with a familiar sense of humor. For example, Donald Duck’s one-liner in today’s teaser has already tickled a lot of fans, indicating the devs understand the characters and their appeal.
