Thunder Lotus Games, a studio recognized for popular games such as Jotun, Sundered, and Spiritfarer, has recently announced their forthcoming game, 33 Immortals, for Xbox Series and PC, including platforms like the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. The game, which carries a price tag of $29.99, is slated to be released in Early Access in 2024. Additionally, the game will be available to users subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

According to Stephan Logier, the creative director of 33 Immortals, the team has been eager to share their latest project with players. In a recent press release, Logier stated that the team is particularly excited to continue building upon Thunder Lotus’s distinctive hand-drawn experiences, this time extending to a broader multiplayer platform. The team believes that the addition of a 33-player cooperative element introduces a fresh perspective to the roguelike genre. The team anticipates user feedback from beta testers and early access players to help them refine the game into an exceptional gaming experience.

The game, 33 Immortals, is described as an ambitious 33-player action-roguelike that urges players to “face the wrath of God”. The game is envisioned as a streamlined version of the MMO raid experience. Players of 33 Immortals assume the role of damned souls standing against God’s final judgment. The game seamlessly integrates a matchmaking system that dispatches 33 players into swift, cooperative roguelike raids, in an innovative concept termed “pick-up and raid” by Thunder Lotus Games. Players can customize their builds to fit their gameplay style, selecting from a vast array of weapons, perks, and persistent upgrades. The game stresses the importance of collaboration among players to enhance survival odds against enemy hordes and massive boss fights.

This game marks Thunder Lotus’s inaugural venture into online multiplayer gaming, a significant shift from their previous single-player games like Spiritfarer, which sold over two million units. To effectively address the challenges posed by online multiplayer games, Thunder Lotus has established two parallel development teams. The team working on 33 Immortals is composed of experienced professionals skilled in online multiplayer gaming.

Key features of 33 Immortals include cooperative combat against enemy hordes and colossal bosses for 33 players, an instant “pick-up and raid” matchmaking system for immediate action, swift runs through a simplified massively multiplayer online raid experience, and an assortment of randomized enemies, challenges, and rewards. The game also provides an extensive selection of weapons influenced by sins and virtues, each offering a unique combat style. Hundreds of upgrade combinations and character builds are available for customization. Lastly, the game continues the tradition of Thunder Lotus’s distinctive hand-drawn art and animation, featuring a world richly inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.
