Konami suddenly released a new Silent Hill game called Silent Hill: The Short Message. This free, short-form title is the first release in a wave of new Silent Hill games currently in development. It’s an exciting development in the series.
According to a PlayStation Blog post from Konami Producer Motoi Okamoto, Silent Hill: The Short Message features a young protagonist and is described as an “experimental project.” The game was created to explore new ideas and some existing ones. This was also a way for newer team members to gain hands-on experience. Konami partnered with developers Hexadrive to bring the project to life. What’s cool is that Silent Hill: The Short Message is free, aiming to attract newcomers to the series and horror fans alike.
“This game started as something like an experimental project – an opportunity for us to try out different things, see what worked and what didn’t, and grow and polish our horror game expertise. We also had a lot of people who were relatively new in their career but still loved Silent Hill, and who really wanted to be involved in making a horror game, so we used this as a way for our team to build hands-on experience, too.”

As a whole, the game delves into current issues faced by those growing up today, particularly focusing on the impact of online negativity and communication. The developers mention the overwhelming nature of online hate and its potential to push individuals further into isolation and despair. Silent Hill: The Short Message aims to portray the struggles of young characters grappling with these issues, highlighting the potential for even small acts of kindness to offer a lifeline.
It sounds like a way to remove the old Silent Hill teaser, P.T., from everyone’s memory. However, that’s just a guess. Alongside the release of Silent Hill: The Short Message, Konami also showcased a new trailer for the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake. While no specific release date was announced, the trailer showed the updated visuals and gameplay.
