Absolute Tactics: Daughters of Mercy, an upcoming turn-based RPG, has finally gotten a release date announcement trailer. The game is now confirmed to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Steam on September 15th, 2022.

You can check out plenty of gameplay footage from PlayStation’s official YouTube channel here:

In this turn-based RPG adventure, players will help Huxley and his dog Max create a team to defeat the evil Father Eldritch’s invading armies.

Overall, the mechanics and personalities seem like pretty standard fare for the fantasy and tactical genre. There’ll be class-based attacks and customization, evil invaders, quests and character upgrades.

Although, the new trailer does provide an enjoyable sense of humor by laying out all of these features from the point of view of the villains, who are more annoyed by the heroes.

Hopefully, the game itself will invest the same kind of humor into its adventure, to help it stand out. But so far, gameplay footage from several YouTubers hasn’t indicated that kind of tone.

One of the key mechanics in Absolute Tactics: Daughters of Mercy will be the “War” levels, which were oddly omitted from the trailer. According to the Steam product page, these large-scale War levels will include dozens of units on the battlefield at once, verticality, puzzles and traps.

Providing that kind of scale could help the game transcend the tabletop influences of the genre, offering a unique experience. That could be a fair selling point. There will also be narrative story maps, where some worldbuilding and characterization might develop further.

Customization is another key mechanic. Players will get 21 different classes, and you can use dual class to create endless combinations. But it feels like this game is more interested in appealing to newcomers to the genre. Either way, it’s always a delight to see the tactical genre, which has fewer titles than most.
