Transformers: Earthspark – Expedition, an upcoming action adventure from developer Tessera Studios and publisher Outright Games, has been announced with a new gameplay trailer. The trailer description reveals it’s slated for release on October 13th, 2023.
Transformers: Earthspark – Expedition will be available on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch today’s announcement trailer on the Outright Games YouTube channel:
Transformers: Earthspark began as an animated series on Paramount+, and was ultimately very divisive among the fanbase. So, it may seem a little strange to double down on this IP in particular. However, it also presents a new opportunity for the narrative, and the gameplay itself seems harmless.
Today’s trailer gives a decent breakdown of what fans can expect, focusing on beat ’em up action and open world exploration. The concentration on Bumblebee might help attract players, since he remains one of the most lovable (and mainstream) characters in the franchise.
The visuals certainly show their budget, with a noticeable lack of detail, so perhaps this would have benefited from a mobile release instead. But the animation and sound effects are fine. And like the source material, Transformers: Earthspark – Expedition seems to be aimed at younger players anyway.
According to the game’s official site, there’s some simple progression, where players can earn new abilities and attacks. You’ll also be collecting Cybertronian tech while trying to stop the evil Mandroid.
While this game will probably underwhelm audiences that were hoping for the 3D epic that Transformers deserves, it still seems like a breezy way to transform Bumblebee into a car and punch some enemies now and then. The casual tone should also be nice to play on the go with a Nintendo Switch.
