Alien Boom Boom, an upcoming action FPS from solo developer and publisher David Vallieres, has just revealed its first teaser trailer and official Steam page. The trailer features gameplay, the premise, and narration with a sense of humor.

Naturally, it’s too early for an exact release date, but it is expected to launch sometime in 2024. It will be available on Steam, where you can wishlist the game today. Here’s the full announcement and teaser from the developer’s official Twitter feed:

Alien Boom Boom’s natural humor, both in its new teaser and Steam page, is going to make the biggest impression on you. Not only do the visuals borrow from the 90’s, so do the jokes. The trailer closes with some cheerful nods to The X-Files for good measure.

But it’s clear that Alien Boom Boom isn’t going to rely on nostalgia alone. The character designs do have their own style, which have touches of old school cel shading and comic book art. This should ultimately help distinguish it from the likes of Destroy All Humans! or Half-Life, both of which seem to have had some influence on the game too.

Alien Boom Boom wears its budget on its sleeve, with few mechanics or weapons to master. It’d be nice if there were larger swarms to fend off, though seeing how enemies will attack fellow humans is an interesting feature. For a solo dev, all of the finer details like lighting, animations, and effects look pretty clean.

Also, the game certainly has plenty of charm, and there does seem to be a fair variety of environments and enemies to discover. Overall, this looks like a playful and promising beginning for the developer.
