Genokids, an indie hack-and-slash from developer and publisher Nukefist, has just released a brand-new trailer to coincide with its second Kickstarter campaign. The trailer features key combat mechanics, dialogue, and story details about musicians fighting an alien invasion.
Genokids is expected to be available on Steam, where users can wishlist the game today. The official website FAQ states that there “might be” support for other platforms later on. The new Kickstarter campaign is live today. You can watch the new Kickstarter trailer on the Genokids YouTube channel here:
Unfortunately, Genokids attempted a Kickstarter campaign before, and it didn’t quite go as planned. Which is really quite a surprise, because today’s trailer has some incredible, tangible, and youthful spirit. Genokids is very clearly a passion project with a solid theme and lots of attitude.
The dialogue and performances are just as playful and energetic as the visuals. There is a definite sense of pacing, big ideas, and ambition that also permeates the story itself.
The environments are all just slightly askew, creating an almost constant sensation of movement. And the animations are truly frenetic, combining elements from anime, classic fighting games, and even a touch of Saturday morning cartoons.
The music also plays a large role in Genokids’ appeal. It really defines both the atmosphere and mechanics, which aim for as many bombastic combos as possible. Players will have the chance to play as four different characters at the same time, resulting in some Marvel vs. Capcom level of chaos.
The new Kickstarter campaign could surely use support, but it already has lots of traction, which should reassure interested fans that they are likely to play Genokids this time around.
