Gun Jam, an upcoming rhythm and first-person shooter indie from developer Jaw Drop Games and publisher Raw Fury, will officially launch on April 19th, 2023, for PC users. It will be available on Steam, where players can wishlist the game now.
Gun Jam VR is already available on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. You can watch the full PC release date trailer on the Raw Fury YouTube channel:
Gun Jam VR has been somewhat divisive, and not just for the traditional issues in the VR scene. It was the central mechanics, such as the balance between players and the enemy waves, that have caused some frustration.
Ideally, Gun Jam will feel a little smoother without some of the restraints that VR inflicts. Movement can still be a little rough around the edges, and that can be a big deal for any rhythm game. After all, Gun Jam doesn’t hold back its punches, and the late game received some backlash for its difficulty. With the freedom and control of MNK gameplay, Gun Jam could potentially get a second wind.
Also, VR devices remain fairly expensive, so Gun Jam is going to reach a much wider audience with its PC launch. It will be interesting to see how more casual players respond.
The art design and soundtrack for Gun Jam are pretty solid, and they surely deserve another chance. There are touches of arcade classics and cel shading in the world of Gun Jam that makes it a colorful and frenetic experience.
Gun Jam pushes familiar mechanics of the genre in some interesting ways. Although it may have been just a little too ambitious, let’s reserve judgment for the PC version.
