Achilles: Legends Untold, an isometric action RPG set in ancient Greece from developer and publisher Dark Point Games, will finally release its 1.0 version on November 2nd, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Achilles: Legends Untold is currently in Early Access, and that version is available now on PC. You can watch today’s new release date announcement trailer on the Dark Point Games YouTube channel:
Greek mythology and heroes have been used in a variety of games, particularly following the massive success of 300. The genre naturally lends itself to epic stories and fantastic creatures. Even the massive Assassin’s Creed franchise explored it with Odyssey, though fans are hoping for a more traditional experience with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which recently announced an official art book.
The familiar Greek warrior Achilles is probably best known to mainstream audiences through the early thousands film Troy, an underrated epic, where he was portrayed by Brad Pitt. To live up to combat expectations, the devs have implemented a complex system that will test both strategy and reflexes.
But the game’s special enemy AI system will surely distinguish it the most. The official Steam page boasts about Group AI activity, where “opponents have unscripted interactions with each other” and even with their environment.
This will encourage players to improvise and adapt quickly so that defeating enemies isn’t as simple as learning each of their unique behaviors. This won’t just create a more immersive world but also add a lot of replay value to the game.
Fighting can become tedious in games like this, and the enemies often feel like they’re on rails. Making it feel unpredictable is much more realistic, and the story is already set to present players with difficult moral decisions. Achilles: Legends Untold has the potential to surprise and succeed, especially with the wider next-gen release.
