Sands of Salzaar, a strategy and action RPG with an open world from developer Han-Squirrel Studio and publisher XD Inc., has released new preview details about the upcoming “Ember Saga” DLC.

The official preview reveals that The Ember Saga will add an Ember Workshop, a complex Child Rearing system, and a new playable character. Not all features are currently final. The Ember Saga is expected to roll out next June, and the devs have carefully noted that they will continue to implement bug fixes “with each update”.

At the Ember Workshop, players will be able to have their gems decomposed or refined. The workshop will also introduce Ember Ocher, who players can travel with. She has an advantage against buildings thanks to her archery skills. This is a pretty straightforward addition in the DLC, with a little more lore, but it is nice that gems should become more practical.

Elaborating on the existing relationship system, The Ember Saga will include Child Cultivation and Child Inheritance. These features will allow players to have and raise children all the way to adulthood, and they’ll even be able to fight alongside you.

It’s a very ambitious and surprisingly realistic system, which is sure to add a lot more investment in earlier relationships, and general world immersion. Many RPGs are content to leave relationships at simple romance.

The opportunity to determine attributes and skills, alongside the responsibilities, will genuinely broaden this game in unexpected ways. The players will have a chance to create their own characters, essentially.

A new playable character, who is on a caravan escort mission and hopes to journey home, wields Mount Tai Ultimate Skills, which focus on counterattacks. Not much was revealed in today’s preview, but it does sound like the combat is distinguishable enough to create some replay value.
