Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case, an upcoming detective adventure sequel from returning developer Blazing Griffin and publisher Microids, will officially launch on August 29th, 2023. It will feature a stolen painting, classic sidekick Hastings, a Timeline feature and more.
Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and current or last-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. You can watch today’s new release date trailer on the Microids YouTube channel:
Blazing Griffin has maintained decent reviews for their previous installment, The First Cases from 2021. But given today’s trailer, it seems unlikely that the sequel will win over any new fans. The visuals and mechanics look relatively unchanged. Instead, the storytelling is front and center again.
Those who didn’t enjoy the linear approach and visual novel tendencies will probably continue to be disappointed. However, fans of the original are sure to be pleased with the expansive London environment.
According to the game’s official Steam page, players will get to “discover iconic locations in London”, hinting at a more sprawling world to investigate. It’s also sure to have more of a distinguishable flavor than the conventional murder mystery house.
Notably, the devs have also suggested that the sequel’s script will have more fidelity to the source material. It remains unclear if the writing will directly reflect the characterization and plot points of Agatha Christie’s written works, or if it will simply include some familiar faces.
The new Timeline feature is sure to help clean things up a bit, which could be useful, as it’s expected to be more difficult to link evidence in the mindmaps. There doesn’t seem to be anything too ambitious about this game, but it rolled out very quickly, and should feel like another pair of cozy slippers.
