Fans of Agatha Christie’s famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, will be thrilled to learn of an upcoming video game release, “Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The London Case.” The news was shared by known Twitter leaker, billbil-kun, who revealed that the game would be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S|X, and Xbox One. The announcement date is scheduled for April 18th, 2023, with the game priced at $29.99 / €26.99 / £23.79 and rated ESRB Teen, PEGI 12, and USK 12.
Hercule Poirot, one of Christie’s most enduring characters, appeared in 33 novels, two plays (Black Coffee and Alibi), and 51 short stories published between 1920 and 1975. His name was inspired by two other fictional detectives of the time: Marie Belloc Lowndes’ Hercule Popeau and Frank Howel Evans’ Monsieur Poiret. Evans’ character, Jules Poiret, shared physical similarities with Poirot, such as a small stature, military moustache, and dandified attire. Poiret was also accompanied by Captain Harry Haven, a returning Londoner after a Colombian business venture.
In her autobiography, Christie acknowledged that the early Poirot stories were influenced by Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tradition, featuring an eccentric detective, a stooge assistant, and a Lestrade-type Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Japp. Conan Doyle himself credited Edgar Allan Poe’s C. Auguste Dupin and his anonymous narrator as inspirations for his detective stories, while basing his character Sherlock Holmes on Joseph Bell, whose “ratiocination” skills were a precursor to Poirot’s reliance on his “little grey cells.”
This won’t be the first game in the series, as Agatha Christie – Hercule Poirot: The First Cases was released by Microids in September 27th, 2021.
