Roblox has been working on a new AI tool that could revolutionize the way models are created. The tool, which is still in development, would allow users to create models without any prior 3D modeling experience. This would be a major breakthrough for Roblox creators, as it would open up the platform to a much wider range of people.

According to the Roblox blog, Roblox is trying to give creators a way to use AI to model their new avatars. Currently, many creators are limited to using pre-made models or hiring 3D modelers to create custom models for them. This can be expensive and time-consuming, and it can also limit the creativity of creators.

With the help of generative AI, Roblox is developing a tool for creating avatars from an image and a text prompt. We assume that means a combination of machine learning and deep learning to generate models from simple text descriptions. This suggests that the tool would be able to understand and interpret human language, and then use that information to generate 3D models.

That’s a huge game-changer.

My degree is in computer animation, so I did learn how to create models and I have used those models in my own projects. However, I remember what it was like trying to learn this stuff, so I am happy to see this kind of thing go to more creators. Things like metahuman, iClone, and all that other software that make art easier only help.

Roblox is enabling those who use their platform to lose restrictions that come with not having enough experience. It’s definitely scary because this could mean someone loses their job. However, the only thing that’s happened as machines have taken over is entire careers have been invented.

A good example is animation because you don’t need an Inbetweener (someone who draws the animation in between the poses that the animator makes) for computer animation. This being replaced by computers has allowed more people to become full-fledged animators because it lets companies take less time on simpler animation and hire more people for big roles. This has made the quality of movies and television better.

Roblox has not yet announced a release date for the AI tool, but it is expected to be released sometime in the next year. Once it is released, it is likely to have a major impact on the Roblox creator community.
