The upcoming top-down ARPG Airoheart has just announced a release date of September 30th, 2022, and is expected to arrive on a variety of platforms. This includes PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch.
Here’s the official tweet from Soedesco, the devs behind this 16-bit love letter to the SNES:
Sodesco are the indie devs behind Lemon Cake and Petit Island, and they have a surprisingly large library of games. So far, the majority of them tend to elaborate on an existing property, with some kind of twist or flavor of their own.
This trend continues with Airoheart, which closely resembles the best that Zelda had to offer, with similar mechanics and art design.
Back in May 2022, the game revealed a lengthy gameplay demo, including half an hour of footage with no commentary. It was only playable through May 9th, but you can still check out the full demo on Soedesco’s YouTube channel:
One of the few comments is quick to point out the similarities to games like A Link to the Past, but the devs promise that Airoheart will introduce its own mechanics and narrative. Also, the demo above is apparently taken from early game, so there is room for expansion.
Players will assume the role of the titular Airoheart, who is out to prevent his own brother from unleashing evil and kindling war in Engard. It’s an open-world game with dungeons, puzzles and familiar magical combat such as spells and bombs.
While this may not push the bar, Airoheart is distinctly a labor of love and holds a lot of promise. It could certainly be a fun dose of nostalgia, and the opportunity to play it on major consoles should be neat.
