Aliens: Fireteam Elite surprised fans with a new trailer for an upcoming expansion called “Pathogen”, which is scheduled to release on August 30th, 2022 for PlayStation.

Although the trailer itself is barely over a minute long, the footage teases a lot of fun updates including a brand-new campaign. The story will be centered around a mysterious infection that seems to result in completely new enemies.
While the new designs might frustrate some purists, the xenomorph’s constant transformation throughout the series is one of its most terrifying and classic attributes. The trailer closes out by hinting at a white Queen design, which could end up being a fun nod to the original film.
Alongside a new “Deadly Hardcore” game mode, Fireteam Elite may push the game into more challenging fare than its breezy Left 4 Dead foundation.
The most exciting addition to the game will surely be the new maps and environments, such as the hives, cliffs and Engineer ruins shown off in the trailer. Battling xenomorphs in the rain would definitely be thrilling.
There’s a lot of pressure on any new weapons, to keep the game balanced while introducing new mechanics. Hopefully, the additions will have distinguishable roles and effects, in keeping with the strategic gameplay.
Some fans were disappointed with the iso approach of the Aliens game announced a few days ago at Summer Game Fest, Aliens Dark Descent. Most are still waiting for a sequel to Alien Isolation because it focused on the horror and survival elements at the core of the film franchise.
For now, it’s still unclear if the “Pathogen” update will be free or paid content. Either way, it will probably be worth your time, as the devs clearly made an effort to add big changes.
