ALTERITY EXPERIENCE, an indie sci-fi survival adventure from developer and publisher ONITRON STUDIO, is finally coming to Xbox on March 17th, 2023. It first launched on PC in 2020, and recently joined PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch in October 2022. Here’s the big announcement from publisher Dolores Entertainment’s official Twitter feed:
ALTERITY EXPERIENCE first teased an Xbox release as far back as last November, but it’s finally reached the last of the major consoles, and now has the chance to end up on Game Pass. Fans of indies and supernatural phenomena should be curious. Its themes blend ideas from familiar ghost fare and the likes of Somerville.
ALTERITY EXPERIENCE certainly wears its budget on its sleeve, between the narration and low-budget graphics. However, it does have plenty of atmosphere, blending popular paranormal tropes like the Pacific Northwest, farmhouses, and mysterious lights.
It’s almost as if ALTERITY EXPERIENCE took the abduction scene from Close Encounters of the Third Kind and turned it into a full game. Only, it also takes the opportunity to cleverly play with modern technology. Also, the race to block intrusions is a solid survival mechanic to generate urgency and tension. The horror mood is reinforced by a traditional first-person approach.
The game has been somewhat overlooked since it first launched years ago, which is a shame. It may not seem especially innovative, but there are worthwhile sci-fi elements and a satisfying aura of mystery.
While there is no clear announcement for a next-gen release on Xbox, this indie is already available on PlayStation 5, so it’s likely going to be available on the Series X|S too. Either way, it’s a swift and inexpensive game, and should renew some interest with the latest port.
