Amnesia: The Bunker, the long-awaited entry in developer and publisher Frictional Games’ ongoing series of Amnesia titles, has just been delayed. Surprisingly, the devs were able to include a new release date. Originally expected in March, Amensia: The Bunker should now be expected to launch on May 16th, 2023. It will be available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Unfortunately, the team has cited “a slew of illnesses” as the cause for delay. Here’s the full statement from the Frictional Games feed:
Naturally, fans were totally understanding about the situation. It’s always great to see this kind of dedication and open communication. Hopefully, the small team at Frictional Games will recover soon.
The delay is slight enough that it shouldn’t affect player interest. Besides the fact that it’s important for any game to have a smooth launch, it’s been three years since the last Amnesia game, so the wait is worthwhile.
Amnesia: The Bunker was just announced with a brief teaser a couple of months ago, featuring some very tense gameplay. It’s another survival horror game in the Amnesia series, this time set in a World War 1 bunker, driven by light and shadow.
The teaser included some of the most compelling and effective sound effects in any game, let alone the indie scene, strategically making the most of its echoing setting. You can check out the latest trailer for Amnesia: The Bunker here for gameplay reference:
Amnesia: The Bunker may not be revolutionary for the series, but it does promise to continue delivering quality content, and that level of consistency is more than enough. Discovering how Frictional Games incorporates a new environment is basically the highlight of any new title in the series. A WW1 bunker promises to be more claustrophobic than some previous titles.
