Animal Shelter Simulator, the animal-loving shelter simulation indie from developer and publisher Games Incubator, has announced an upcoming Horse Shelter expansion with a new trailer today. Animal Shelter Simulator is available on PC, Mobile and Xbox. A Nintendo Switch port is expected to release sometime this year. A release date hasn’t been confirmed for the Horse Shelter DLC, but here’s the full trailer:
Animal Shelter Simulator is at once relaxing and challenging, and even the simulation of managing a shelter feels very satisfying. Any game with an animal is basically obliged to let players interact with them, and Animal Shelter Simulator is built on that unanimous love.
Although the graphics show their budget, the art design is very charming and serviceable. Besides, the mechanics themselves are interesting, with additional tasks like building management and expansion. But player responsibilities run the gamut from treats and playtime to hunger and health.
There is a very clear sincerity from the devs’ approach to animal care, and that players basically get to share in that passion. In fact, the devs have gone out of their way to attempt to introduce new ideas for actual shelters, here and there.
Horses offer a unique blend of power and grace, so they should offer all kinds of new challenges and rewards. It should be far more ambitious than the existing animals in the game, with radically different behaviors and needs.
The DLC Steam page promises to add an entirely new area for horses, and yes, you will absolutely be able to ride them. Naturally, there will also be new objects and buildings, surely required for the new animals. The expansion is very likely to bring in new audiences, so it’s a shame that there’s no release window.
