In a significant move to expand its global presence, Annapurna Interactive has officially acquired 24 Bit Games, the largest South African development studio. This marks a significant milestone for the American video game publisher and developer, as it represents their first venture into studio acquisition, following the announcement of the formation of an internal game development studio in 2022.
Over the years, Annapurna Interactive has collaborated with various studios, empowering them to craft unique gaming experiences. Notable outcomes of these collaborations include the critically acclaimed titles What Remains of Edith Finch, Outer Wilds, Neon White, and Stray. Among the studios with which Annapurna Interactive has forged multiple partnerships is 24 Bit Games, leading to the successful launches of Neon White and the recently released puzzle adventure game, Cocoon. Given their extensive history of collaboration, the decision for both entities to unite appears to be an exciting progression.
“Annapurna has been working with 24 Bit for many years, and we value not only the caliber of their work but their team as well. They’ve always shared our commitment to quality, and by taking our partnership to the next level we feel like anything is possible.”
Deborah Mars, Co-Head, of Annapurna Interactive
Luke Lamothe, CEO of 24 Bit Games reciprocated the sentiment, stating, “We deeply respect Annapurna’s approach to curating a portfolio of great games, its value system around building and extending IP, as well as the company culture. We have truly enjoyed working together over the years, and we believe we are joining Annapurna at an exciting moment of growth and expansion.“
As this acquisition unfolds, fans eagerly await the upcoming projects from Annapurna Interactive and 24 Bit Games, as they embark on a new chapter as a unified video game company.
