The official Apex Legends YouTube channel just revealed the first look at Jackson’s origin story, in their latest “Story from the Outlands” cinematic.
You can watch the brand-new upload here, titled “Hero”:
The launch trailer actually preceded this SFTO for next season. Apex likely shook things up in order to add more impact when Newcastle was revealed as Bangalore’s brother, Jackson. But the new cinematic has even more surprises.
Plot details and Reveals
“Hero” opens up with Harris Valley, which is celebrating Newcastle as a hero, although he failed to get into the games again.
We learn that Jackson has a wife and daughter now, and he hasn’t taken on the Newcastle mantle just yet. Jackson’s daughter asks him to find her doll “stuffy”, and stay safe using the protection bracelet she made him.
Unfortunately, when Jackson finds her doll back in town, he ends up rescuing the current Newcastle from thugs that are demanding money.
Amusingly, the old Newcastle complains that he couldn’t enter the Apex games and pay them back because his teammates were dragging him down (a common complaint, with strangers and troubled matchmaking).
Jackson uses many of the abilities he’ll have in-game, dragging the injured man behind cover and using a makeshift shield. The action is well-staged, as usual, and it’s fun to see alternators used so casually.
Ultimately, Jackson makes a deal with the villain, in order to protect Harris Valley from their evil boss. Jackson agrees to pay off the money by entering the Apex games himself, and he promptly takes on the armor from the old Newcastle.
This means that Jackson got into the games on his first try, and didn’t really fail 40 times before making it in. That should be a relief for anyone who was annoyed with how they painted Newcastle’s character.
Jackson also seems to remember his sister Bangalore, as the cinematic closes with him speaking to a poster of her. There’s still no clear answer about how exactly Jackson survived his infamous fall.
Newcastle will be the first sibling character in Apex Legends, which could be fun for any fans that are actual siblings. You can check out more updates and guides in the rest of our Apex Legends section!
