Fireball Wizard’s new trailer is more of an outright gameplay showcase than the reveal trailer, which was very brief but provided more of an overview. Here’s the previous trailer from PID Games:

Fireball Wizard is full of charm and aims for tongue-in-cheek fun, but it also boasts the craftsmanship to maintain that kind of controlled chaos.

The retro aspects of Fireball Wizard are undoubtedly the real treat and hook. Aside from the gorgeous pixel art, there are classic arcade sounds here that will absolutely call the likes of Defender and Missile Command to mind. Not to mention the golden rings players will be collecting, which is such a blatant reference that you’re more likely to grin than feel annoyed.

The trick is that although Fireball Wizard is full of classic RPG tropes and nostalgic references, those are only playful accessories for some genuinely creative worlds and obstacles. It has all of the gleeful spunk of someone running their first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, also indicated by the forthright title.

However, there are still plenty of details in the environments and spells, with a clever eye for lighting. Glowing objects and unique color schemes in each stage manipulate your attention and add strange layers of different retro themes. This should be a very winning jolt of fun for any platformer fan.
