Just a day after announcing the launch date of Baldur’s Gate 3 for PlayStation 5 and PC, Baldur’s Gate 3 community manager confirmed that an Xbox version is in the works but may not be published on the same day as other platforms.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing video game by developer and publisher, Larian Studios. It is the third main installment in the Baldur’s Gate series and is based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing system. Baldur’s Gate 3 launched in Early Access on PC back in 2020 and since then has received several updates.
As part of the PlayStation State of Play February 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 was previously announced to get a full release for PlayStation 5 and PC on August 31, 2023. Meanwhile, a recent post by a community manager on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit revealed that the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently in development. However, the Xbox version may not be published at the same time as the PS5 and PC versions due to technical difficulties with the split-screen co-op mode that the developers have encountered. The community manager added that the developer does not want to make any promises until they are sure that they are able to deliver.

Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works for some time, but we have run into some technical issues – particularly with split-screen co-op. We are still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not yet confident enough to announce it. We don’t like announcing anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to get people’s hopes up until we’re sure we can deliver.
There’s no platform exclusivity preventing us from releasing BG3 on Xbox day and date, should that be a technical possibility. If and when we do announce further platforms, we want to make sure each version lives up to our standards & expectations. Thanks for understanding!

Baldur’s Gate 3 previously became the best-selling game on both Steam and GOG.com on the day of its launch in early access. The game peaked at over 70,000 active players on Steam, suggesting excellent initial sales. It is unfortunate that Xbox players who anticipate its full release on the platform may have to wait for a while until Baldur’s Gate 3 issues have been fixed. Nonetheless, it is still uncertain what’s coming in the development, and it is possible that Larian Studios will have time to address any problems before the scheduled release date.
