The tabletop roleplaying genre of board and video games has never been more popular than it is now, with countless iterations like Baldur’s Gate evolving on what players thought possible. Now, the highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3 has been confirmed to be released almost a month early, with the date being moved from Aug. 31 to Aug. 3.
This news was made public by Bloomberg gaming reporter Jason Schreier, who states that the reason for moving up the release date is to give it some distance from the highly-anticipated Starfield. This release date only applies to the PC version, with the PlayStation 5 version of the game coming about a month later on Sept. 6.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the hit Dungeons and Dragons franchise, drawing from the extensive compendium of lore while also making sure to add its own unique flare. Developer Larian Studios shared a post on Steam detailing more about this decision and some in-depth information about the game’s classes
While this will come as good news to PC fans, the PlayStation release date has been pushed back by a week, but it is likely that the developer is less concerned with competition from Bethesda’s new title on that platform. Larian believes that the benefits of increasing the development time by a week outweigh the negative feelings that the community might feel.
This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available. Make sure that you check back at Try Hard Guides for all the latest information about the release of Baldur’s Gate 3.
