Battlefield 2042‘s development team places player feedback at the center of their efforts. As such, the team has been working on a fresh wave of content for Battlefield 2042, which is scheduled to release the following year. In a recent Battlefield Briefing, EA Games discussed upcoming map reworks and the introduction of Classes, as well as a peek at Season 4 and Season 5 updates for Battlefield 2042, which will arrive next year.

In Update 3.1, which will be released later in December, players will encounter a new version of Manifest with HQ flags closer to the action, a smaller play space, improved visibility, cover, and sightlines, and improved pathing between flags to enable more concentrated attacks and defenses.

Early in 2023, as part of Update 3.2, a vastly redesigned Breakaway will be introduced. The Oil Rig was also moved closer to the action, resulting in a more concentrated play area. In addition to introducing new methods to play within the ice itself, the update will also include brand-new flags based on updated areas of the Town and nearby Refineries. In addition, Update 3.2 will reintroduce Classes to Battlefield 2042. As such, all existing Specialists will be placed within defined roles with a set of equipment and gadgets suited to their battlefield purpose.

The recent release of Season 3: Escalation marks one year of Battlefield 2042. Meanwhile, the upcoming Season 4 will mark the end of Battlefield 2042 Year 1 and will launch in early 2023. It will introduce a new Specialist, a brand-new Battle Pass, and brand-new hardware, among other things. While the new map will be smaller, shorter, and linear, it will be intended for the iconic close-quarters combat that Battlefield is known for.

Battlefield 2042 also revealed that Season 5 will lean more on previous games and how they may materialize in the world of 2042. The new Season 5 map will be a forgotten battleground from the Battlefield 4 era – an overgrown area, engulfed with vegetation by the 2042 war. It will promote a mix of vehicle and infantry combat, making teamplay the key to victory.

Battlefield 2042 is now also free in December across all platforms. Learn more about the next updates and the future of the game on the Battlefield 2042 page on EA Games’ website.
