Bethesda has proudly announced a remarkable milestone for its open-world sci-fi action RPG, Starfield, revealing that a whopping 13 million players have immersed themselves in the game since its release in September. While the game may have been overlooked by prestigious gaming award ceremonies, its status as one of the most awaited titles leading up to its launch is undeniable.

Often referred to as “Skyrim in space,” Starfield represents Bethesda’s most ambitious project to date, boasting an extensive development period of nearly eight years. Following a series of delays, the game finally made its debut on Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 6, 2023. However, the extended development cycle didn’t shield Starfield from mixed reviews. While some praised the expansive and virtually boundless exploration possibilities it offers, others noted a perceived emptiness within the vast expanse.

Recently, Bethesda took a moment to express gratitude to the multitude of players who joined Starfield‘s incredible launch in an end of the year update. The developer not only confirmed the impressive milestone of 13 million players but also disclosed that it stands as the largest launch in Bethesda’s storied history. Accompanying this revelation was an interesting infographic, shedding light on average playtime per player, planets explored by the players, and more.

Looking ahead, Bethesda recently shared significant plans for Starfield in the coming year through a Reddit post, such as new ways to travel, official mode support, first story expansion, and more. The end of the year update elaborated on these new features, with the developer disclosing their intention to release updates approximately every six weeks starting in February.

As fans look forward to the promised improvements and expansions, there are high expectations for Starfield‘s future. In any case, it is reassuring to know that Bethesda’s commitment to enhancing the Starfield experience remains unwavering. Fans can only hope that all the studio’s efforts and dedication to shaping the game’s future will reflect in the waves of new content to be released next year.
