Redemption Reapers, an upcoming simulation life game set in a dark fantasy world, has just been revealed from Binary Haze Interactive and Adglobe. It will be available on Steam, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. A release window was announced today for February 2023, though a concrete date was not confirmed. You can watch today’s full trailer on Binary Haze’s YouTube channel here:
Publisher Binary Haze Interactive and developer Adglobe are only really known for publishing ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights, another dark fantasy with stunning art design that has received almost unanimous praise since launching last year.
It remains a high standard for the genre, and continues to draw many comparisons to Hollow Knight, though it was a successful combination of several different genres and styles.
The SLG genre is very niche, but it’s clear that Binary Haze and Adglobe are suited for it. The art design and action look very promising in today’s trailer, even if the lore and setting remain a little broad for now.
The tone is intriguing, contrasting high-octane adventure with guilt and sorrow, leaning into a gothic experience that emphasizes struggle and consequences. This is probably what inspired the player’s journey to the titular “redemption”.
There were glimpses of both cinematics and gameplay, and the latter was not quite as flattering as the gorgeous cinematics. Still, it’s only the first teaser, and there are a couple of months until launch.
The platforms for the game are a little odd, since it’s available on the PlayStation 4, but the devs didn’t commit to next-gen consoles. Any SLG would greatly benefit from next-gen tech. Meanwhile, Xbox fans won’t be able to play at all. Hopefully, there’ll be release windows for those ports soon.
