Light Odyssey, an upcoming Boss Rush and adventure game from indie developer and publisher SSUN GAMES, has just revealed a new Steam page featuring key details.
The game is still in very early development, so no release window is confirmed yet. However, it will be available on Steam, where indie fans can find updates on the game’s progress. Here’s the big announcement from Light Odyssey’s official Twitter feed:
Firstly, the art design of this game has some very effective atmosphere, with moody neutrals and light effects that live up to the title. The plot involves brightening the world, so it’s neat to see how the devs reinforced how dismal their world is without making the game itself feel drab. Instead, the environments in all of the released footage look pretty mysterious, and worth exploring.
As a boss rush game, the big antagonist has to be compelling enough to fuel the full story. Fortunately, the central “colossus” also has a fun design. While its head will surely remind Marvel fans of Galactus, Light Odyssey’s colossus is intentionally tied into nature, both in its stony appearance and the plot.
The game’s new Steam page refers to colossus plurally and mentions “unique attack patterns”. So, there may be a variety of colossus types. However, it should be noted that the Steam page seems to have been translated into English, so it may not be reliable to nitpick the language for smaller details. The protagonist is adorable, but their character design still adheres to the surreal tone of the game.
The adventure itself promises to feature skill upgrades, hidden backstories, and basic combat mechanics like well-timed evasion. It’s unclear just how much exploration will be featured, given the Boss Rush aspects of the game. But hopefully they will balance out nicely.
