Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 recently teased the highly anticipated Ashika Island map yesterday, but they finally released a brief gameplay trailer that explores the island. It added that Ashika Island is set to roll out on February 15th, 2023, along with Season 02. You can review the full Ashika Island trailer on Call of Duty’s official YouTube channel here:
For all of the points of interest that have now been revealed, it’s notable that today’s trailer reinforces how small the map will feel. Battle Royales tend to benefit from larger maps, so that a parade of third parties don’t overrun the experience. However, it does fit the pace of Resurgence, and there definitely seems to be enough variety in the map design to still encourage strategy.
It’s interesting to see how well the devs have been able to implement water throughout their maps, and it really shines in today’s trailer. All of the new water-based equipment and vehicles have played an interesting role in the latest Call of Duty sequels. While they’re a little divisive, they are also generally pretty creative, and that’s always welcome in this long-running franchise.
The trailer gave a lot of scale with its POIs, giving fans some perspective on how the lines of sight are actually going to look and feel up close. It’ll make a difference when you’re planning your rotations, which are probably already running through players’ heads after yesterday’s teases.
Ashika Island seems to make the most of its theme, with some gorgeous art design, which makes interesting contrast for the battles within. It’s nice to see some establishing shots of how the POIs will flow alongside each other. Fan responses have been largely positive, though the trailer was of course another opportunity for players to ask the devs for various content.
